Dew Point Comfort Chart
Whatever number you get back, this is the scale to read it against:
| Dew Point (°F) | Dew Point (°C) | Comfort Level | What It Feels Like |
|---|---|---|---|
| < 50 | < 10 | Dry | Crisp, no humidity. Skin may feel dry. |
| 50 – 55 | 10 – 13 | Very Comfortable | Pleasant, barely noticeable moisture. |
| 55 – 60 | 13 – 16 | Comfortable | Slight moisture, still fine. |
| 60 – 65 | 16 – 18 | Slightly Humid | Starting to feel sticky. |
| 65 – 70 | 18 – 21 | Humid | Uncomfortable. Sweat evaporates slowly. |
| 70 – 75 | 21 – 24 | Very Humid | Oppressive. Hard to breathe deeply. |
| > 75 | > 24 | Oppressive | Tropical. Stay indoors. |
What Today’s Dew Point Means for You
The dew point is the single best number for planning a day outdoors, because it does not shift meaning with the temperature the way relative humidity does:
- Below 55°F: a great day to be outside. Sweat evaporates freely and you can go at full effort.
- 55–65°F: pleasant to slightly sticky. You will notice it if you are active, but it will not get in the way.
- 65–70°F: humid. Shorten outdoor workouts, drink more than usual, and expect a fan or AC to be worth it tonight.
- Above 70°F: oppressive. Move exercise to early morning or indoors, and take heat safety seriously if you work outside.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often does the dew point update?
Readings refresh every 30 minutes, and each result shows the local observation time so you know how fresh it is. Dew point changes slowly compared with air temperature, so a half-hourly reading is more than accurate enough to plan your day.
Where does the dew point data come from?
Readings come from Open-Meteo, which aggregates national weather service observations and forecast models. The dew point is reported directly by those models rather than estimated from temperature and humidity, and it is shown in the local time of the city you look up.
Why is dew point more useful than the humidity percentage?
The humidity percentage changes with temperature, so it can be misleading. Dew point measures absolute moisture — 65°F always feels sticky, no matter the temperature.
